What keeps you committed to being a leader?

By Chris Wahl

In today's world, change is constant. Mandates change; priorities shift. Agreements shift. The work you do today and the energy you've given today may not be adequate to the demands coming tomorrow. In the face of change and relentless demands on you and your staff, the question arises, what keeps you committed? Is it the promise of retirement just around the corner? Is it the chance to get ahead politically? Is it the chance to make a difference in the lives of fellow Canadians? Is it the chance to "be a leader" every day, through some action you take that helps everyone in your organization see a better picture of the future you are trying to create?

Reflection

For the next week, notice what challenges your commitment to being a leader. Notice the conversation you have with yourself when your commitment is challenged. Notice what deeper value is driving you to be a committed leader.
