Capable Managers Make a Difference Forum
(Vancouver, B.C.)

The Pacific Management Community presented a management forum in Vancouver B.C. on May 13 and 14, 2003. The forum sold out in just one day and there were 105 managers on the waitlist. Held at the state of the art Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, over 150 managers were in attendance. The speaker line up was very impressive and the overall evaluations showed that 98% of participants rated the forum as either good or excellent.

Achieving success in the NWT - with a little help from a mentor

Heather LeBreton could be the civil service poster woman. She's a positive and motivated employee who loves her job with Public Works and Government Services Canada in Yellowknife. Heather readily points to her informal mentor relationship with her boss, Marg Henderson, Director, NWT Client Services Team, as a source of inspiration. While the two are not engaged in a structured mentor program, Marg has provided Heather with much guidance and support over the past three years.

Options for Managers

The Newfoundland and Labrador Managers' Network has been instrumental in the development of an innovative interdepartmental career development program aptly named Options. The program, sponsored by the Newfoundland and Labrador Federal Council, is multi-faceted and encompasses a range of career development alternatives to enhance managers and potential managers learning and development. Over the last two years managers, team leaders, supervisors and aspiring managers are participating and reaping the benefits of these programs. The following provides a brief description of the various Options program components.

Ontario Managers - 2002: A Year in Review

An important touchstone to the success of the Ontario Managers' Community has been the group's ongoing focus on leadership, learning and development and networking.

Celebrating Success! -- Michael Nurse

It is with great pride that we celebrate the success of our National Managers' Community Champion, Michael Nurse, who recently was honoured with The Head of the Public Service Award under the Valuing and Supporting Category. Establishment of a National Managers' Community Council, a National Managers' Community Secretariat and this web site are just a few examples of his commitment to supporting and furthering the needs of the managers' community from coast to coast.
